Bitcoin halving countdown
The current Bitcoin block height is 974,781, with 75,219 blocks left until halving #5 (block 1,050,000). Based on the recent average block interval, the estimated halving date is 2028-04-28 (about 539 days away), when the block reward drops from 3.125 BTC to 1.5625 BTC. Progress through the current halving period is 64.2%.
Bitcoin's block reward halves every 210,000 blocks (about four years). After 2012 (50 → 25), 2016 (25 → 12.5), 2020 (12.5 → 6.25) and April 2024 (6.25 → 3.125 BTC), the next halving occurs at block 1,050,000, cutting the reward to 1.5625 BTC.
The estimated date is remaining blocks × the average block interval in the current difficulty period (mempool.space), so it can shift by days as hashrate changes. Past cycle tops came 12–18 months after a halving, but there are only four samples.
